Do you ever make promises to yourself? It's not only ok if you do, but also a great thing if you do.
Just like "God's Perfect Promises" I shared about a couple of weeks ago, it is wise for us to make some "life promises" for ourselves to practically appropriate our identification as children of God.
Remember how we talked about an oath of office or the oath of a witness, being sworn in to testify in some legal manner?
It is an acknowledgement to uphold a standard of integrity but also holds an expectation to establish a desired pattern of truthfulness and honesty.
I am sure, that many if not all of us, have made promises to ourselves or others and have reneged at some point. This pattern of failure produces mistrust in oneself or others to make promises because we were disappointed and hurt.
BUT I am willing to suggest today we can still make some healthy promises to ourselves that will assist us to truly be the best version of what God created us to be, as His sons and daughters
The following 9 examples hopefully will give you a new and fresh vision to move forward with purpose, for God wants the best for us--ALWAYS AND ALL WAYS!!
1. Promise yourself that you will talk about health, happiness and prosperity as often as possible. (3 John 2)
2. Promise yourself to let all your friends know there is something in them that is special that you value. (John 3:16)
3. Promise to think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best in yourself and others. (Phil 4:8)
4. Promise to be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. (Rom. 12:15)
5. Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. (Rom 15:23)
6. Promise to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements in the future. (Phil 3:13-14)
7. Promise to always wear a cheerful appearance and give every person you meet a smile. (Prov. 17:22)
8. Promise to give so much time improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others. (Phil. 2:1-5)
9. Promise to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit trouble to press on you. (2 Tim. 1:7, I Jo 4:18)
As Gods children, if we haven’t won our personal battles, we’ll never be as capable to lead other people to victories in their battles. Let’s do our best to be our best!
