Three of the darkest days on earth were the three days following the death of Jesus. The religious leaders were so concerned about his body being stolen that they had guards authorized by the Romans to watch the tomb..  They didn't want any type of situation arising that would have left doubt and may have proved the truth that after three days and three nights Jesus would rise again from the dead.
