The question was once asked, "Are you a thermometer—reading and adjusting to the temperature of the culture, or are you a thermostat—setting and expecting to change the climate of the culture? If you are a conformer, a thermometer, you are probably in for perpetual frustration because if you try to adapt, the world will have already moved on leaving you in a constant state of trying to keep up. A thermostat on the other hand, can be set to achieve a fixed, predetermined climate.

How can we “not be conformed?” What’s the key? Well, one way to look at it is, don’t be a thermometer, be a thermostat. Don’t be a conformer, be a transformer.

We can honestly say, “I’m in a whole different place than you are, world, I’m living for eternity.”

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
