A Language of a Lifetime

One of the most exhilarating times in my life took place on a summer night in the middle of a cow pasture in Ohio in 1967. I had recently turned 20 and now I found my thoughts flooded with thankfulness to my newly found Heavenly Father. What was happening that was so magnificent? I was speaking a language that I did not know!

I was speaking in tongues. My mouth was producing words of a language I knew not. But without a doubt, I knew I was operating a manifestation of holy spirit born within me.

I was experiencing a dream come true. I had a desire to know, that I really knew God was alive and that I had a permanent relationship with Him. It was extremely clear I was born again of God’s eternal spirit, because I was speaking in tongues.

How strange this was to me, for 2 weeks prior to this time, I had never even heard of speaking in tongues. Yet, I could not deny God’s Word that this new dynamic manifestation which began on the Day of Pentecost was real. And now I was speaking to God directly (For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:…) I Corinthians 14:2.
